In 1985 Mike O'Hagan started Mini Movers with $200 and a Ute. The Company has continually experienced very strong growth and today has a turnover of over $30 million per year and has over 500 employees.

The Owner Mike O'Hagan has very strong views on Small Business and factors that make Businesses successful. He is of the view that Mini Movers is not in the Transport Industry but in the In-Home Service Industry. This industry supplies a Service to people in their homes. People who traditionally would have completed these tasks themselves, but due to a combination of higher income and more leisure time activities, now seek a Service to complete the task.

Running a business is a very long and complex formula. Each section of this formula has to be perfected. Luckily, simple logic is all each part of the formula needs to be successful.

Every business needs to focus on the customers, their wants, and needs. In fact the whole business needs to be structured (and continually updated/reviewed) to service the customers needs. From this structure will flow a way to service customers that "works". This then needs to be turned into a system. A business is after all nothing but a system. When you find something that works, you shouldn’t waste time trying to figure out - why. You should systemise your procedures into written form, and then use this to train your staff. Your people then only need to follow a set system, over and over again.

Part of the Mini Movers success is the employment of people who "want a job". MiniMovers employs their people, and owns their trucks and are opposed to subcontracting and/or franchising. Employment of "good" people is paramount to the success of any business. By making people "buy their job" you immediately limit your choice of the people who are going to service your customers.

Happy customers tell others. Creating Ecstatically happy customers is the first goal of ALL the Mini Movers people.

When outstanding service is applied in both the type of service to suit the customer’s needs, AND workmanship/courteous attention from the service providers, then the business will grow.
