MiniMovers Get Physical with Broncos Trainer
Thursday, 5 March 2009
Broncos Physical Performance Director Dean Benton will be at the MiniMovers Rocklea Depot on Friday March 6 to assist with functional flexibility evaluations.
Mr Benton will be providing information and tips relating to strength, flexibility and hydration as well as answering any questions raised by MiniMovers removalists.
The evaluations are part of the MiniMovers JointAction program launched in December 2008.
The program is aimed at educating MiniMovers personnel about health and nutrition as well as minimising and preventing manual handling and musculoskeletal injuries.
Former shearer turned occupational therapist Michael Lawrance, conditioning coach John Pryor and former Australian Wallabies physiotherapist David Bick are involved in delivering the program.
The program was conceived after research conducted by JointAction into the removalist occupation found that one days work as a removalist was equivalent to playing two to three games of rugby league in terms of energy cost.
MiniMovers Chief Executive Officer Paul Beavon said early indications showed the program would be a long-term success with a reduction of around 20 per cent in occupational health and safety issues.
“We expect there will also be other benefits such as fewer days off, happier employees and reduced turnover of staff,” Mr Beavon said.
